The Lyceum Spelling Bee is comprised of four competitions: the first three are held at each individual school.
- The Preliminary School Competition involves distributing a written test to all 4th and 5th grade students. The top 20 students from each grade are selected by the school and will compete in the Semi-Final School Competition.
- Students chosen for the Semi-Final School Competition are again provided with a written test, but this time with more difficult words. Twenty of the top students (combined from both grades) will be selected by the school to compete in the Final School Competition.
- The Final School Competition is an oral test from which two winners and two alternates are selected to represent their school while competing for the title of ‘Top Speller’ in the County. Final Spelling Bee contest will be held at San Benancio Middle School on February 28th, 2009.
What is the Spelling Bee?
